My carpet got wet. Can it be saved?

Wet carpet can harbor bacteria depending on the type of water it was flooded with. It can also begin to mold and mildew which can be harmful to an individual. In all cases the pad needs to be removed and replaced. On occasion the carpet can be dried out, but it needs to have a new pad underneath.  Always make sure the carpet is completely dry before relaying it on the pad.

    What is mold?

Molds are organisms which are neither plant nor animal. They are part of the fungi kingdom. Unlike plants, molds do not get their energy from the sun through photosynthesis. In fact the sun's ultraviolet light inhibits mold growth. Molds also digest or "eat" the material they are growing on. The role of mold is to break down decaying organic matter such as dead plants, leaves or dead animals. Mold can cause severe allergic reactions in people when they are exposed. Symptoms of mold allergy may include sneezing, runny nose, coughing, wheezing, tearing and redness of the eyes, and skin irritation or rash. Asthma attacks may be caused by mold or mold spores in people who have asthma and are allergic to mold.

How long will the clean up take?

The amount of time it takes to clean up varies with the type of damage that your home has incurred. It can take anywhere between 3 days to 2 weeks from start to finish.

How do I know if I have mold in my home?

If you are smelling a moldy smell, that is a good indication that there might be mold somewhere in the home. Don’t ignore it. Do an inspection of your home to see if you can find where the smell is coming from. You might also see mold growth on places that have high humidity such as the bathroom or laundry room.  Take action quickly to stop it from spreading. If you have had flooding or water leaks that were not properly cleaned up chances are you have mold growth in your home.

A tree crashed through my roof. What do I do now?

Contact Restore Pros and have us out to tarp your roof, board up any broken windows or holes and secure any structural damage, if necessary. Next, call your insurance company. Then we can begin to assess the damage and come up with a plan of action for getting your home restored.

What is depreciation? What is recoverable depreciation?

Depreciation is a reduction in the value of an asset with the passage of time, due in particular to wear and tear. Recoverable depreciation is when the insurance company refunds you the depreciation cost, or difference between replacement cost value and actual cash value, once restoration repairs are completed.

    Should I get several estimates?

The cost of repair will vary depending on the type of damage that you have, how long ago the damage occurred and the severity of the damage. When it comes to repairing water damage, it is important to get the clean up process started as soon as possible to avoid potential mold growth which can lead to more clean up. Restore Pros prides itself on doing the best job possible for the money.  Also we work with all insurance companies, so we can begin work immediately, eliminating the need and confusion of getting different estimates from different companies.

How can I prevent water damage?

Taking care of and properly maintaining your appliances will help to prevent them from becoming a water issue. Make sure everyone in your home knows where the water cut off is and how to use it. If your water bill suddenly rises you may have a leaky pipe.  Check walls (especially in the basement) for greenish or black spots on the wall possibly indicating a mold problem. If you notice them, Call Restore Pros immediately.

What should I do after a flood, sewage, water leak or frozen pipes burst?

Mold can start to develop soon after exposure to moisture; call Restore Pros as soon as possible to begin the water removal process. Also contact your insurance company so that they can begin working on your claim. Stay away from the wet area as much as possible.  If there are electrical items in the wet area do not enter the room at all.

What are some common effects of water damage?

Excessive water exposure to a home can cause wood to rot, paint and wallpaper to peel, carpet to be destroyed as well as mold to grow if not treated. The structure of the home can be compromised due to weakened foundations.

Will insurance cover the water damage to my property?

The answer to this question is based on the source of the water damage. Was it an “act of God” such as a flood or hurricane or was it due to a leaky washing machine or a busted pipe? They will want to determine that every precaution was made to prevent the occurrence. Restore Pros will work with your insurance company to help make the claims process as smooth as possible. We are here to help get your life back on track after a disaster. We work with all insurance companies to ensure a hassle free experience.

About how long does the drying process take?

The drying process varies from job to job. There are many components that help to determine how long it will take to dry everything out. Such as, the type of material, the amount of time exposed to water, how quickly the drying process was started, and where the water came from. Generally, it take 3 to 5 days to get a structure completely dried.

Will I have to replace my floors? They are wet and buckling.

In order to determine if flooring needs to be replaced it will be evaluated during the drying process. In some cases it can be returned back to the original shape using our equipment. The equipment has the ability to dehumidify and dry out wood. Complete drying out of the wood could take up to 3 weeks depending on type, density and exposure to water. You and your insurance company can make the final decision whether or not to replace the flooring.

Does my furniture and all my other belongings need to be moved out of my home or business during the cleanup process?

Usually furniture and belongings do not have to be moved during the drying process. If the damage is wide spread or if the furniture is large and impeding the work then we will let you know.
