Definitions

Sometimes industry words and definitions can be confusing.  We hope the below definitions help explain some of the wording and terms we may use when discussing your situation.

Anti-Microbial - Destroying or inhibiting the growth of microorganisms and pathogenic microorganisms such as mold spores.

Black Mold - is a name commonly used for Stachybotrys chartarum and is extremely dangerous to humans. Stachybotrys is known as a toxic mold because it produces toxins called mycotoxins. Black mold is a greenish-black gelatinous mold and is usually slimy because of a wet layer on the top.   However, if the water source runs out it can appear dry and powdery.

Containment Barrier -Containment Barriers help isolate and contain dust, airborne contaminants, odors and mold spores when performing indoor building construction, mold remediation and day-to-day maintenance activities. Containment barriers provide a durable floor to ceiling protective barrier that minimizes the chance of dirt and particle migration from the work zone and allows the remainder of the building to be used normally without
interruption.

Dehumidification - To remove atmospheric moisture, water vapor, humidity from the air.

Humidity - the amount of water vapor (the invisible gaseous state of water) in the air.

HEPA (High Efficiency Particulate Air) - filter designed to remove 99.97% of airborne particles measuring 0.3 micrometers or greater in diameter passing through it.

HEPA Air Scrubber - A HEPA air scrubber is a portable filtration system that removes particles, gasses, and/or chemicals from the air within a given area. These machines draw air in from the surrounding environment and pass it through a series of HEPA filters to remove contaminants.

IICRC - Institute of Inspection Cleaning and Restoration Certification

Mold - Species of fungi that grow in warm, damp and humid conditions and spread and reproduce by making spores. For people with sensitivity to mold reactions can occur such as eye and skin irritation, wheezing and nasal congestion. More serious reactions can include upper respiratory tract symptoms, fever and shortness of breath.

Mold Remediation - Mold remediation is a process in which mold is cleaned and removed from a building through professional methods. Mold remediation is necessary in cases where significant growth is present in various possible areas of a building, including carpets, ceilings and drywall. Typically, mold remediation involves special chemicals, cleaners and equipment to remove existing mold and prevent future growth.

Negative Pressure Containment - A containment, or regulated area, that has a negative pressure drawn on it with HEPA filtered negative air machines. To create negative pressure inside a containment zone, more air has to be exhausted out than leaked into the containment.

Restoration - To return something to an earlier or original condition by repairing or cleaning it.

Water Mitigation - Water mitigation generally refers to the steps that professionals take to clean up the damage caused by a water related emergency. The first step of water damage mitigation is removal of the water. Restore Pros uses very complex systems that are able to remove water as quickly as possible.
